Outdoor Sculptures by Ton Kalishoek

Ton preferably applies the latest materials in his work, this also counts for his outdoor sculptures. He has made a first series of sculptures that are completely suited for outdoors and they are very durable. For this he uses extremely durable fiberboard called Medite Tricoya. This material, which only recently has been on the market, does not absorb moisture or expand. Ton also casts some sculptures, in a limited edition of 8, into a two-component resin in which approximately 50% stone material is processed. In the composition of his work Ton uses further ultramodern filler and primer from the automotive industry. The sculptures of this series are finished with a metallic coating.

In Ton’s first series of outdoor sculptures he has used three different perspectives and styles:

  • First two abstract sculptures. With one of these Ton portrayes the expressive, extrovert and more passionate side of life, Flames of Passion. The other shows the power of self-reflection and self-assessment, Introspection.
  • The second approach is more figurative. Here Ton uses more animal figures to portray concepts such as velocity, Lord of the Wind, strength and grace, Wolves of Paradise.
  • The third style is the method which Ton is now going to call his identity and where he groups anonymous and faceless people in a certain context. These are the sculptures Higher Love and Wave of Change.
